Poster Abstract

Biomass Gasification as a Means of Waste Disposal and Energy Production in the Beef Industry

Energy Institute Staff
The Pennsylvania State University

The objective of this project was to investigate the feasibility of using gasification for waste disposal option in the cattle meatpacking and rendering industry given the concerns regarding mad cow disease and to assess the potential for producing energy from cattle waste gasification where economics permit. Ground cow carcass (and specified risk material) and meat and bone meal were fed into a bench-scale gasifier to note the hydrogen and combustible yields using an online GC. This research was funded by the National Cattleman’s Association.
