The performance and operability of gas turbine combustion systems can be affected by changes in the composition of the fuel. Since the composition of biogas fuels can vary significantly, an understanding of these effects is critical to the successful development of biogas fueled gas turbines. Of particular importance are the effects of fuel composition on the lean operating limit, auto-ignition, flashback, dynamic stability and emissions. The status of our understanding of these issues will be reviewed and future research needs discussed.
